Music Ministries
St. Pete's has long been known for our strong musical heritage. Below are some opportunities for parishioners of St. Peter Claver Parish to lend their voices and musical talents in the celebration of Liturgy. Music Ministers give of their time and talent to enrich and enlighten our Liturgies. We use our voices and instruments to offer our praises to God and encourage the Assembly to participate to its fullest. View online cantor/choir and liturgical ministers schedule. Classical ChoirSATB (4 Part Harmony) music of a more Classical style. High school aged and up. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights. The choir sings on a rotation schedule for all of our weekend Liturgies. Contemporary ChoirUnison, descant and some SATB music with piano, guitars, and added instruments of a more Contemporary style. High school aged and up. Rehearsals are on Thursday nights and the choir sings at 10:00 am Sunday, or 4:30 pm Saturday Masses. Children's ChoirThe Children’s Choir is open to parish children in grades 2-6. This choir sings at one weekend Mass a month from October through May. Children who like to sing are encouraged to join this Ministry. Hmong ChoirOur Hmong Choir is open to youth and adults. This choir sings during the Hmong Mass conducted the first Sunday of the month at 12 noon, at Christmas and during special occasion Masses. New Life Choir (Funeral Choir)A devoted group of adults who are called to sing for all Funeral Liturgies. Mostly unison singing, this choir rehearses before the funeral and occasionally will sing at a weekend Mass. No weekly rehearsals are held for this choir. Handbell ChoirThe handbell choir is comprised of a group of individuals of varying ages who have both years of experience and those who are just beginning to ring. The handbell choir rings and rehearses at least once a month and is open to anyone who is able to read music notation. CantorsCantors are leaders of congregational singing and must possess the skills necessary for leading song, singing alone well and teaching new music to the congregation. Cantors need to be able to make people feel welcome to sing. Cantors normally sing about once a month and rehearse with the director of music a half an hour before Mass. InstrumentalistsMusicians accompany and/or play solos and add to the Celebration of the Liturgy. All ages are invited to share their talents. Instrumentalists need to be confident in their playing and be able to maintain poise in front of a large group.
