Baptism

Baptisms are held on the second weekend of the month. Please call the parish office to find out when the next Baptism will take place, or to find out when the next weekend Baptism will be held. You are encouraged to choose one of the weekend liturgies. Your child will be baptized into a faith community and therefore the celebration should be in the context of the community’s worship. A noon baptism may also be chosen on that second Sunday, if absolutely necessary. However, there may be more than one baptism on that particular weekend at noon. We do not baptize during Lent.

Participation in an instruction session by the parent/s is required, preferably before the birth of the child. Sessions are held bi-monthly. Contact Sr. Marilyn to schedule the baptism and register for the parent session. Baptismal sponsors (Godparents) should be practicing, confirmed Catholics. Only one sponsor is necessary but most parents choose to have two. A second sponsor may belong to another Christian denomination but must be baptized and practicing their faith. (top)

Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered by appointment with Father Cerpich at any time. Call the parish office at (920) 457-9408 to schedule your appointment. No name need be given if you wish. City-wide communal celebrations with individual confession and absolution are held during Advent and Lent.

Parish children prepare for this sacrament in the second grade.  Preparation sessions are incorporated in the religious education program and day school curriculum.  All children must have attended religious education classes or the day school one previous year in order to be eligible for sacramental preparation.  Parent formation is included as a city-wide event. All parish children celebrate the sacrament together as part of the south side tri-parish. (St. Peter Claver, Immaculate Conception, Ss. Cyril and Methodius).  (top)

Eucharist

Parish children prepare for this sacrament in the second grade after they have received their First Reconciliation. All children must have attended religious education classes or the day school one previous year in order to be eligible for sacramental preparations.  For the Christ Child Academy children, preparation classes are incorporated into their school curriculum.  For the religious education students, in addition to their weekly religious education curriculum, they attend separate classes on Sunday mornings for seven weeks.  Parent formation is included as a city-wide event.  All children attend a First Communion retreat day and celebrate the sacrament at the Mass of their choice on one weekend in spring at St. Peter Claver. (top)

Confirmation - Adult

Each year, we provide an eight-week session on the basics of the faith to assist you in completing the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) into the faith as a Catholic Christian. This process is designed for adults eighteen years and older and out of high school who have never been confirmed. Contact Sr. Marilyn to find out more.

Confirmation - Youth

Final preparation for this sacrament takes place in their junior year.  The youth will have experienced meaningful service projects, chosen and met with their sponsor, attended weekly Mass, participated in a retreat and attended youth ministry classes.  This sacrament is celebrated in the spring of their junior year or at the beginning of their senior year.  The celebration is south side tri-parish involving St. Peter Claver, Immaculate Conception and Ss. Cyril and Methodius parishes. (top)

Matrimony

Arrangements should be made with Deacon Mike at least six months prior to the wedding; preferably one year in advance. At least one of the couple must be a member of the parish, or become a member, or have a family connection that is currently a member. Plan your music by contacting Frederick Strassburger and contact Rochelle Ross to get church decorating tips. (top)

Anointing of the Sick

In the Parish
Communal celebrations of the anointing of the sick are held after each mass on the last full weekend of every month. Outside this communal celebration, please call the Parish Office to seek anointing when faced with serious illness or surgery. Prior to Vatican II this sacrament was called Extreme Unction (Last Rites) and was delayed until the last possible moment or even administered after death. This is no longer the understanding of this powerful sacrament. (top)

In the Home
Fr. Cerpich can go to the home of the person to be anointed. The participation of family and friends is strongly encouraged to witness to the ecclesial character of the sacrament. (top)

In the Hospital
To request the Sacrament of Anointing please call the Parish Office. Most hospitals, even those that are not Catholic, have a Catholic Chaplain on call during your stay in the hospital for emergency reception of the sacraments of healing: reconciliation and anointing. Even in these emergency situations, family and hospital staff should take part in the celebration whenever this is possible. (top)

Hospital Visitation
Aurora Memorial Hospital does not notify churches when parishioners are admitted. Parish information is rarely gathered, if someone is admitted through the emergency department. If you or some other parishioner you know is hospitalized and wish to receive the sacraments or a parish visit, please call the Parish Office to inform us. Also, please give the name of the hospital where you are a patient. Visitation will then be arranged. Be sure to indicate you are Catholic on your pre-admission forms so you are placed on the hospital's Catholic patient list. Usually St. Nicholas Hospital will call us if you are admitted. If you are unsure and want the parish to know you or a family member is admitted, please contact us. (top)

Home Visitation
Our Homebound Ministry Coordinator, Sr. Marilyn, will arrange for a parish Eucharistic Minister to visit and pray with those who are sick and homebound. To request a home visit call the parish office. (top)

Sick Calls
Homebound parishioners who would like to receive communion may have a relative pick up a pyx and booklet of prayers in the sacristy before Mass. Lay ministers of the Eucharist will also visit and bring communion. (top)

Holy Orders

Interested in the priesthood or the diaconate? Contact Deacon Mike or St. Francis Seminary for more information. (top)
