Treasure

Stewardship calls us to receive God's gifts gratefully, to nurture those gifts and to then give them back to God out of gratitude. Stewardship is based on our need to give out of gratitude, not on the church's need to receive. Parishes will always have needs. Fund raising efforts are built around institutional or charitable needs such as a new roof, a new boiler, etc.

What is tithing and how is it related to Stewardship?

Tithing is based on the bible and speaks of sharing 10% of our financial resources. Stewardship invites parishioners to give a percentage of their income, their financial gift, to the parish also, and challenges each of us to make an intentional, planned and proportionate commitment of all our gifts. Most importantly, our gifts should reflect our prayerful consideration and be a first step of faith by choosing to put God first. View tithing chart (top)

How does Planned Giving fit into our stewardship efforts?

Being a good steward means giving back to God what is God's and planned giving is a giving tool that stewards can use to share their gifts. Planned giving opportunities include bequests in our wills, life insurance beneficiaries, gift annuities, and charitable trust funds, and others which benefit the work of Christ through the parish in perpetuity. Legacy of Faith - Parish Endowment Fund

It is the generosity of our parish members that has enabled St. Peter Claver to establish an Endowment Trust to receive and administer bequests, estates, insurance and other assets. The purpose of the Endowment Trust Fund is to supplement the support and maintenance of the ministries of St. Peter Claver Parish. The principle of the fund shall be retained and only the interest income, dividends, and/or growth may be used to enable the future growth of our church, its ministries and stewardship opportunities.

An Endowment Trust Committee has been established to serve as custodian of this fund. The committee consists of our Parish Director, Trustee/Treasurer, Trustee/Secretary, Office Manager and five parish members that includes the chairperson of the Finance Council.

Good stewards respond to the needs that fund raising efforts address, but they always focus on the primary fact that, as disciples of Jesus who have been gifted by a most generous God, we need to give!

Archdiocesan Outreach Catholic Stewardship

Over 700,000 Catholics in more than 200 parishes benefit from the Catholic Stewardship Appeal for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. This annual appeal begins in February each year. Contributions all stay within the Milwaukee Archdiocese and are used to provide parish services, ministerial formation, social outreach, education and family training, clergy services and communication and development. More information is available on the Milwaukee Archdiocese Catholic Stewardship Appeal website.
